With significant impacts resulting from recent major storms (and other causes of electrical grid outages) sustained in this region of the US, especially New Jersey, it is important for all sectors of business and government to learn about recent advances and trends in technologies geared toward greater resiliency and storm preparedness. This event’s presentations will highlight such technologies, and how they can be employed to provide a far greater degree of preparedness & resiliency than currently exists.

Duke Farms’ sustainability efforts include: Adaptive reuse design/renovation of a 1905 stone dairy barn converted to an Orientation Center & Offices for the Foundation and renovation/renewal of an 1899 Lord & Burnham conservatory now designated as the Orchid Range, both of which recently achieved LEED Platinum certification presented at a ceremony on 4/23/14. In addition to the buildings, major site infrastructure upgrades were completed to embody and demonstrate environmental stewardship including new bioswale parking lots, a constructed wetlands to process all site wastewater, geothermal heating and cooling systems, and construction of a solar array to allow the site to function off the grid.
VITETTA Architecture and Engineering was the lead planner and designer helping Duke Farms renovate and adaptively reuse the Farm Barn and Orchid Range as LEED Platinum certified buildings. Other design team consultants included Andropogon, landscape architect; WSP Flack+Kurtz, M/E/P/FP engineers; Langan Engineering, civil and site engineer; Orth Rodgers Engineering, traffic engineer; The Lighting Practice, lighting designer; Horizon Engineering, commissioning agent; Whirlwind and Greg George, exhibits designers; Irwin & Leighton, construction manager.

WALKNG TOUR: Advanced registration is highly recommended – limited number of paid meeting attendees can register for a 4:00 pm guided walking tour of the facility.

MAIN EVENT: The program will be in the Farm Barn (Orientation Center) at 5:30 pm
